Indian Health Care Resource Center

IHCRC provides medical, health education, dental, optometry, behavioral health, chemical dependency, HIV/AIDS prevention and pharmacy services directly to the Tulsa Indian community. Oklahoma Caring Van Program

The Oklahoma Caring Vans are mobile units that provide free immunizations to children at licensed child care homes, centers, schools and community events. A registered nurse from the City-County Health Department administers the immunizations.

Patient information is entered into OSIIS (Oklahoma State Immunization Information System) so that children?s immunization records will be portable. The Oklahoma Caring Van program has offices in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, offering clinics in communities statewide.

Oklahoma County Health Departments

County Health Departments offer a variety of standard services, with some Departments providing special programs or differing levels of service within a general program area. Check with each Department for detail on services provided. Many services are free or based on a sliding scale. Standard services include:

  • Child health services: Check-ups, vision and hearing screening, urine screening, immunizations, counseling with parents on infant care and child behavior, diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses, and screening and referral for various health problems.
  • Sooner Start: Early intervention services for children ages 0-3 with developmental delays include parent education, nursing, occupational and physical therapy, speech-language therapy, audiological services and special instruction.
  • WIC: A nutrition program for pregnant, breast-feeding and postpartum women, infants and children.
  • Immunizations for children and adults.
  • Tuberculosis testing, treatment and follow-up of contacts.
  • Family planning.
  • Sexually Transmitted Disease Services: Testing, treatment and follow-up of contacts for sexually transmitted diseases. Care and treatment is confidential and free.
  • Child guidance services: Individual and family counseling, developmental screenings, parent-child education programs and child abuse prevention programs.
  • Genetic counseling and testing.
  • Dental care for children and pregnant women, public education.
  • General clinic: Immunizations, blood pressure check, sickle cell screening, vision and hearing tests, diabetes screening, breast and cervical cancer screening, and tests for anemia, sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis.
  • Public health information, education and publications.
  • Environmental health: Inspection of food service facilities, hotels and motels, schools, institutions, camps and parks, barber shops and public swimming pools.
  • Children First Program: Offers parenting education in the home for first-time parents.
